I’ve been fairly absorbed in reading The Brothers Karamazov, but here’s what I’ve been reading this week. These notes may contain mild spoilers.
To God by Esther Yi

Back Cover Excerpt: “At the atomic level of language, the infrastructural level of genre play, and the cosmic level of existential threat, Esther Yi’s vision radiates, illuminating the increasingly confused coordinates of contemporary life, its absurd contradictions, and our growing disconnectedness not only from each other but from our own selves.”
Format: E-copy. Gifted from Astra Publishing House via Netgalley
I read ‘Y/N’ by Esther Yi some time ago and I felt like I had stumbled on to madness. The same strange and satisfying atmosphere that I found in ‘Y/N’ is also present in this collection of short stories in ‘To God’. The story ‘Author Biography (No Picture)’ is just weird, but also solemn and thought provoking. I reminded me why ‘Y/N’ still has its place in my brain matter. Weird shit won’t ever not have a place in my mind.

Fancy Gap by Zak Jones

Back Cover Excerpt: “A powerful, unforgettable debut: three estranged generations in Appalachia grapple with loss, poverty, and their individual demons, until an explosive climax brings them together in apocalyptic deliverance.”
Format: E-copy
My ‘survived the work week’ treat was purchasing an e-copy of ‘Fancy Gap’ by Zak Jones. The introduction from the grandmother’s perspective was pretty interesting based on the perspective and foreshadowing, so now I’m curious about how this whole story will unfold.
